Job Title: Estimator

Job Summary:
Estimators are responsible for analyzing construction projects and preparing accurate cost estimates. They work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to determine the materials, labor, and equipment needed for a project. Estimators also review project plans and specifications, conduct site visits, and gather data to calculate project costs. Their main goal is to provide reliable and competitive bids that meet client requirements and ensure profitability for the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Analysis and Cost Estimation:

  • Analyze project plans and specifications
  • Obtain pricing and quotes for materials and services
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates

Risk Management and Optimization:

  • Review project risks and opportunities
  • Identify value engineering options
  • Optimize project costs

Communication and Presentation:

  • Present and defend cost estimates to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Maintain updated cost databases and pricing information

Project Cost Monitoring and Support:

  • Monitor and track project costs, changes, and variances
  • Provide ongoing cost analysis and support during project execution

Industry Research and Knowledge:

  • Stay current on industry trends, pricing, and market conditions
  • Use industry knowledge to inform cost estimates and bidding strategies.

Key Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field
  • Several years of experience in construction estimating or related field
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cost calculations
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Understanding of project management principles and construction processes

Certifications (Optional but Preferred):

  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar certification
  • LEED accreditation or knowledge of sustainable construction practices
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software
