Job Title: Staff Accountant
Job Summary:
A Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a range of accounting and financial tasks within an organization. Their primary duties typically include preparing financial statements, maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, analyzing financial data, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting. Staff Accountants may also be involved in accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, tax preparation, and providing support for audits.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports for management and external stakeholders
Record-Keeping and Reconciliation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Process vendor invoices and payments
- Generate customer invoices and track accounts receivable
- Monitor cash flow and manage outstanding balances
Budgeting and Forecasting Support:
- Assist in the development of budgets and financial forecasts
- Track actual performance against budgeted targets
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making processes
Tax Compliance and Audit Support:
- Prepare tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations
- Assist in the preparation for and support during financial audits
- Provide documentation and support for audit inquiries and reviews
Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes
- Implement improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize financial operations and reporting.
Key Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA certification or progress towards certification preferred
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends and variances
- Strong problem-solving skills to resolve accounting discrepancies
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
